Located at the south entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee is the capital of Qualla Boundary (sometimes called Cherokee NC reservation) which occupies 212 km 2 and is currently home to more than 12,000 members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. This tribe consists of the descendants of the Cherokees who escaped forced displacement from 1838-1839 to the west of Mississippi, known as Trail of Tears, and found refuge in the Smoky Mountains. Cherokee offers several interesting places, although it is not extensive. This is the case of the Welcome Center, the Cherokee Museum Indian Village, the reconstituted Indian village of Oconaluftee Village, and the Mountainside Theater amphitheater, which is intended for night shows in the open air. The city, which has no special charm, is the gateway to the Smoky Mountains, concentrating a large number of motels, fast foods, all kinds of attractions and other tourist amenities. There is also a casino (Harras Cherokee Casino) and a golf course (Sequoyah National Golf Club). Fortunately, the green and relieved reliefs from the surrounding mountains, the river passing through the city and the beautiful Oconaluftee Island Park contrasts with the excessive construction of tourist infrastructure.Every year, in July, the party blows up during the four days of the Cherokee Fair. This is just one of many events organized throughout the year by the community.
