A visit to the university campus is a must for a visit to Tuscaloosa. Inspired by the University of Virginia campus, it is both a very beautiful site, dotted with magnificent historic buildings and extremely well maintained and at the same time a place steeped in history (you will find many panels that pay tribute to missing events and characters in the history of Tuscaloosa). The university has indeed been the scene of high points, particularly during the war of secession and attempts at desegregation. Here are some sites not to be missed during your visit and take into account that on game days, the campus is so busy that it becomes almost impassable. However, going to a game is a unique experience to integrate into American culture and appreciate the passions that sports games generate, especially university games.

Bryant Denny Stadium, the huge American football stadium and its esplanade known as the "Walk of Champions" because of its many plaques installed in honour of the athletes who have distinguished themselves during national matches.

Brotherhoods and sororities, (the former being reserved for boys, the latter for girls). Respectively located around Judy Bonner Drive and the stadium. The University of Alabama's fraternity system is reportedly the largest in the country.

West quad, the central park where you can watch students play football or Frisbee or read a book.

The many magnificent buildings: Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, the main campus library, Morgan Hall, Bidgoodhall, Gorgas House, Manly Hall, Carmichael Hall...

Bibb Grave Hall, the building in front of which the African-American student, Autherine Lucy, was attacked by a crowd of white supremacists who attacked her, going so far as to throw all kinds of objects at her, including a brick that almost hit her head; forcing her to take refuge in the building for hours until a police car transported her incognito to a safe place. A plaque in his honour is installed near the building.

Presidential Mansion, the residence of the President of the University who was barely saved by his wife when the Union troops arrived at the end of the Civil War. It then came between the soldiers and the building that was to be destroyed.

Malone Hood Plaza, the square that includes both the Foster Auditorium where Senator Wallace blocked the entrance to African-American students and a memorial that pays tribute to Autherine Lucy, Vivian Malone, the first African-American student to graduate and James Hood, the first student (after Autherine Lucy) to enter the University of Alabama and considered the one who unsegregated it.

Wood quad, a green square bordered by very beautiful buildings, today, occupied by different disciplines including the University of Art and Dance. In the centre, you can admire contemporary art sculptures.
