COLORADO STATE CAPITOL

Public buildings to visit
5/5
2 reviews

The Capitole is the legislative building of Colorado, located exactly one mile (1.6 km) above sea level. It houses the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Governor's Office, the Lieutenant Governor's Office and the Treasury Department. That is where the laws are created and voted on. The building, conceived in the late nineteenth century by Elijah E. Myers in a neoclassical style, has, like the capitol of Washington, D.C., a Greek cross-shaped base.

A free visit to the building will allow you to admire its architecture, whose raw materials are emblematic of the state's riches. The exterior walls are made of granite extracted in the Gunnison region (Colorado), the pink stone found repeatedly in the building comes from Beulah (Colorado), it is a coloring of unique onyx in the world. Floors are built in marble marble (Colorado). Finally, the dome gold comes from a gift of almost 5 kilos made by miners in Colorado. Rising to more than 80 meters high and glittering gold, the dome is a great tribute to the state's mining history.

Free visits from the Capitole take place every day from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. without reservation requirements for groups below 12 people. The Chamber of Representatives and Senate rooms are open to the public from mid-January to mid-May, Monday through Friday. Gallery guides are also available.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Shelter is 64.70 km 2 near the City of Commerce City, approximately 13 km northeast of Denver city center. Located on the US Army's former chemical weapons factory, Arsenal Rocky Mountain, he was appointed National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1992. But to get there, a very careful environmental clean-up has removed all pollutants from the site. Today, more than 330 species of wild animals are resident, including deer, raccoons, raptors, coyotes, white pelicans, ferrets, prairie dogs or bison. A great opportunity to observe the different species and walk in a wild wilderness near the capital of Colorado. When open, plan a small passage to the Visitor Center to learn more about the park and its residents.

HISTORY COLORADO CENTER

General museum
4/5
2 reviews

A fascinating museum dedicated to the history of Colorado. It is all aspects of its evolution that are covered here, from the lives of American native Americans to the arrival of settlers, through the search for gold. It also talks about skiing and national parks. All through photos, videos, reproductions and simulations all as fun as informative. Children will have opportunities to have fun in different attractions like the road simulator on the ground floor in a beautiful old car. Another lighthouse is the bowling storm, which reproduces a dust storm. This is happening in a small traditional wood house. The time of almost two centuries goes back to a peaceful summer evening before an impressive dust storm unfolds the elements and plunges it into darkness. An experience not to be missed. Spend a lot of time in front of you if you really want to enjoy this incredible wealth of information and dive into the different universes that make the history of Colorado.
