Preserved and unchanged factory built in 1873 to produce iron and steel until 1986. Visit for 2-3 hours.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Völkingen iron and steel complex is the only industrial site in the world to have remained unchanged since the 1930s. Built in 1873, the plant produced iron and steel until 1986. Today, the site's managers have the excellent idea of setting up temporary exhibitions and organizing concerts. A highly instructive visit not to be missed, allow 2 to 3 hours for exploration, the time to climb to the top of the platforms at the foot of the blast furnaces, and discover every nook and cranny of this steelworks.

Site incontournable du patrimoine industriel régional, Völklinger Hutte accueille également une grosse exposition par an avec texte traduit en français et en anglais. Bouddhas en 2016 (exceptionnelle), Incas en 2017 (moins qualitative et un peu trompeuse). Rajouter facilement plusieurs heures pour faire le tour de l'expo du moment. Un site dans lequel on passe donc facilement la journée, avec un petit restaurant très bien d'ailleurs (sinon, mais particulièrement copieux, voir à 500 m le restaurant Alter Banhof, situé à même les rails avec des vues imprenables sur le site).
