LAKE VÕRTSJÄRV

To the west of Otepää lies Estonia's second-largest lake, Lake Võrtsjärv, 40 km long and also ideal for relaxing. This is a eutrophic lake, meaning that it is shallow - the average depth of the lake is around 3 m - and turbid, with a high concentration of plant nutrients, resulting in a large algal bloom. It's a great place for walking, cycling, swimming (near Vaibla), renting a rowing boat or taking a boat trip (to the port of Oiu).
