PÜHALEPA CHURCH

Near Suuremõsa, the town's oldest church dates back to the ^13th century. But don't leave Suuremõsa without visiting the Põhilise Leppe Kivid, 350 m to the north, a strange site of granite stones scattered over the lichen soil: some say it's a pagan site, others that it's a tomb from Swedish times, or what remains of the early construction of a pyramid copied from the Egyptian model. The adjacent chapel houses the sarcophagus of Duchess Ebba-Margaretha Stenbock, descendant of Jacob de La Gardie.
