Frascati is a town in the Castelli Romani region, famous for its gastronomic specialties and the elegance of its Tuscan villas. These sumptuous patrician residences of the late Renaissance and Baroque periods were built by the Roman nobility in the verdant setting of the Albani Hills, often on the remains of Roman villas and surrounded by magnificent gardens and parks. Some can be visited, while others have become luxury hotels or remained private residences. Must-sees include Villa Falconieri, Villa Aldobrandini, Villa Torlonia (of which only the beautiful garden remained after the war) and Villa Tuscolana, now a luxury hotel but open to visitors. Frascati is also known as the "Città del Vino" for its world-renowned wines: Frascati Superiore, Cannellino (both DOCG) and Frascati DOP. Wines and typical products can be tasted in restaurants, taverns and the famous fraschette. The town is very lively both day and night, and is the heart of the Castelli Romani nightlife. Thanks to the presence of a large number of scientific research institutes (ENEA, CNR, ESA, INFN), it attracts visitors from all over the world. Rome-Termini can be reached by train in 25 minutes; the station is a 5-minute walk from the city center.
