On September 22, 1866, Paraguay's greatest victory against the Allies took place at Curupaytý. The battle pitted 5,000 Paraguayans against 20,000 Brazilians and Argentinians. A few trenches and a monument to General José Eduvigis Díaz, who led the Paraguayan operations, can still be seen on the site, but not much more. Curupaytý is located 12 km from Humaitá, on private property. Unless you're a history buff, there's not much point in going there.
