The mausoleum of Jehangir is considered to be the most beautiful Mughal structure after the Taj Mahal. The same emperor, Shah Jahan, is at the origin of both buildings. While the Taj Mahal was built in memory of Shah Jahan's wife, the mausoleum was erected in honour of his father (at the head of the Mughal empire from 1605 to 1627) ten years after his death. Situé un peu en dehors de Lahore, le vaste mausolée moghol de Jehangir est situé dans l'ancien sérail Akbari arborant de très beaux arbres d'où se dégage une grande sérénité. Le sarcophage en marbre avec des incrustations de pierres précieuses est de toute beauté.
A proximité et dans le même parc se trouve la tombe nettement moins bien conservée de Asif Khan, son beau frère. De l'autre côté de la voie de chemin de fer se trouve le mausolée en cours de restauration de Noor Jehan
