KASTRO
Rocky outcrop in a wild landscape with access by boat, car and on foot.
The former fortified capital of the island, the fortress was abandoned in 1829. Today only two of the original twenty churches remain. This rocky spur, located just north of Skiathos in a wild landscape, is accessible by boat to go faster. Alternatively, you can drive to Evangelistria Monastery, continue for 5 minutes on a dirt road, then walk 30 minutes. During the Second World War, the Kastro was used as a refuge for some Allied soldiers who wanted to cross into Egypt.
