Ștefan Vodă appeared on a map of the region for the first time in 1884. The town was formerly called Kizil, then Suvorov in Soviet times. It had a strong German community. The town hall is located in the centre of the town, 250 m from the bus station. It is a building with typical Soviet architecture and nearby there is a statue of Ștefan cel Mare.
