Timetable

Opening times are fairly similar to those in France (between 9am and 7pm). Please note that many historic sites have summer and winter opening hours. Be sure to check their websites. Here, there are no daytime siesta breaks like in Spain. If you're on a guided tour, take the morning session (especially in summer, because of the heat). The museum is generally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and on December 25, January¹ and Easter.

To be booked

You don't need to book in advance for the city's museums. However, you do need to book in advance for theater performances and some Fado concerts. For certain activities (FC Porto, World of Discoveries, etc.), you can book online for a special pass. Private tours and cruises can be booked in advance.

Budget & Tips

Admission is free or with discounts (up to 50%) for holders of the Porto Card, a pass sold in tourist offices and at the airport. It is valid from 1 to 4 days. Some museums are free on the first Sunday of the month or on Sunday mornings. This is usually specified on their website. Museums can be visited free of charge on International Museum Day (May).

Main events

Porto's biggest event takes place in June. Saint John's Day (São João) is celebrated on the evening of June 23 for the 24th, but there are events all month long. The Portuguese look forward to it as early as May.

Guided tours

In Porto, there are panoramic buses offering tours of the city (Yellow Bus - www.yellowbustours.com, City Sightseeing - www.city-sightseeing.com), as well as tours on more original themes, such as food tours, street art tours, heritage tours and wine tours. Some of these tours are free.
