Between monastic visits and local discoveries, this third day in Porto settles in quietly, unveiling its final mysteries.

Morning: Serra do Pilar Monastery and Porto wine cellars

As part of a 3-day tour of Porto, a visit to the Monastery da Serra do Pilar is a must. Dating from the XVIIᵉ century, it is distinguished by its circular cloister and church. The building surprisingly belongs to the army, as evidenced by the military vehicles parked nearby. Although your time here may be short, take the opportunity to enjoy a stroll through the Jardin do Morro, located directly opposite the monastery. Alternatively, take the Gaia cable car down to the riverbank.

After this interesting escapade, treat yourself to a visit to Porto's wineries, accessible by crossing the Dom Luis I bridge. Wineries such as Taylor's, Graham's and Cálem offer tours including cellar tours and Port tastings (in moderation, of course!), which you can book easily by clicking here!

Afternoon: Igreja dos Clérigos and the Lello and Irmao bookshop

During your stay in Porto, a visit to the Da Cordoaria garden and theIgreja dos Clérigos, famous for its Torre de Clérigos visible from afar, is a must. Hold on tight, because "a bit of waiting" and 225 steps await you. I promise you, this must-see tower is well worth the effort, if only for its spectacular view over the city. Click here to book your ticket for the Torre dos Clerigos.

Nearby, the Lello and Irmao bookshop, dating from 1906, immerses you in the stunning architecture of an old-fashioned bookshop. High shelves are set against a wooden backdrop, in the middle of which stands an impressive red staircase.

Funfact although some claim that its design inspired J.K. Rowling to create the sets for the Harry Potter films, it seems that the writer never actually visited the bookshop.

These three days full of discoveries fully explain why Porto is one of the 25 must-sees in Portugal!
