Built near the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad, the village was originally called Caddo. But when the post office was established in September 1901, the name was changed to Hydro to honor the abundance of water from the town well. Agricultural development was very rapid here, especially with the cultivation of corn and cotton. Hydro has its icon; it is neither a famous actress nor a singer, but a simple pump attendant: Lucille Hamons, who worked here from 1941 to 2000. Lucille's Service Station is listed on the Register of Historic Places and was restored by ASAP Energy Group in 2020.
