A former prison built in 1891, now used as a Springfield police substation.
Built in 1891, the Calaboose is not only a former prison (which is what its name means) but also the oldest existing structure owned by the city of Springfield. The building was saved from abandonment and restored to its original appearance. It is now used as a police substation and includes a museum on the second floor dedicated to Springfield law enforcement, from the creation of the city's first police department in 1829 to the present day. A trip down memory lane guided by the station's staff.
