LA VIRGEN DEL DEDITO QUEMADO

The miracle of the Virgen del Dedito Quemado took place over 250 years ago.

According to devotees, the Virgin of the Assumption was the intercessor who protected the city of Masaya from destruction when the volcano erupted in 1772.

The image of the Virgin of the Burnt Finger travels in procession that day through the main streets of the Monimbo district, to the area known as Piedra Quemada, where the lava stopped but splashed onto the toe of the image's right foot.
