Arrival by train Luxembourg-Ville

Luxembourg station is the central point of the Grand Duchy's rail network. In addition to its direct and fast connections with the rest of Europe, including the TGV Paris-Luxembourg in 2h10, at least five times a day, Luxembourg has several domestic lines managed by the CFL (Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois).

Line 10: Luxembourg-Troisvierges, with continuation to Gouvy and Liège (Belgium).

Line 30: Luxembourg - Wasserbillig, with continuation to Trier (Germany).

Line 50: Luxembourg-Kleinbettingen, with continuation to Arlon (Belgium).

Line 60: Luxembourg-Esch/Alzette-Pétange-Rodange, with continuation to Athus (Belgium).

Line 70: Luxembourg-Dippach-Rodange, with continuation to Longwy (France).

Line 90: Luxembourg-Bettembourg, with continuation to Thionville, Metz and Nancy (France).

Public transport Luxembourg-Ville

Fares. Since1 March 2020, trains, buses and trams throughout the Grand Duchy are free for all, residents and tourists. Only an identity document is required in case of control. Note that in trains, first class requires the purchase of a ticket, and that municipal buses may be charged if mayors choose not to follow this measure.

Tram. The tram project called Luxtram is still in progress but well advanced: some sections are already used. In the end, the network should comprise 16 km of line, 24 stations and 32 trains. It will link Luxexpo (Kirchberg) to the central station of Luxembourg City via the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte bridge (Pont Rouge). An extension to the airport is also envisaged

Bike, scooters & co Luxembourg-Ville

The company Vél'oh offers self-service electric bicycles are available in Luxembourg-City 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Stations are located all over the city. Many of them are equipped with a terminal where you can buy a short-term subscription.

With a driver Luxembourg-Ville

There are several taxi ranks in Luxembourg City, such as at the Central Station. Fares are not regulated, so each operator is free to set its own prices. However, the fare schedule must be displayed visibly in the rear window on the passenger side.

The Hellotaxi.lu platform allows you to book a driver via an application, for now or later. Depending on your trip, the price is displayed before confirmation of the reservation and cannot be changed.

By car Luxembourg-Ville

As far as car rental is concerned, there is a wide choice, both at the airport and in the city centre. In addition to the large international companies, which you will easily find, there is the Luxembourg company Autolux

During winter weather conditions (or more clearly in case of ice, snow or frost), the use of four winter tires is mandatory for vehicles driven on public roads. This rule applies to everyone, residents or foreigners, driving on the country's road network. A fee may be added by your rental company to your car rental bill.

In built-up areas the maximum speed limit is 50 km/h. Outside built-up areas the speed limit is 90 km/h. On the motorway, you can drive up to 130 km/h; 110 km/h in case of rain.

The main accesses to Luxembourg-City from the neighbouring countries are the following:

For France: via the A3 motorway from Metz and Thionville.

For Belgium: via the A6 motorway from Arlon and Belgium.

For Germany: by the A1 motorway from Trier, via Grevenmacher.

Access from the north

The A7 motorway (or Route du Nord - "Nordstroos") has been open since late 2015. From Ettelbruck, it joins the A1 at the Kirchberg Plateau.

Location. In Luxembourg, you must be at least 21 years old to rent a car.

Accessibility Luxembourg-Ville

Luxembourg is a very accessible country for people with reduced mobility. This is also reflected in its transport: facilities are provided for users and assistance can be requested from the CFL (for train journeys).
