SAINT-NICOLAS MONASTERY

Located on the banks of the Dnieper, this architectural ensemble is one of the city's main points of interest. It is dominated by St Nicholas' Cathedral. Built on the ruins of a wooden church at the end of the 17th century (between 1669 and 1672) in a baroque style, the cathedral retains a precious gilded wooden iconostasis with magnificent mouldings and 17th century frescoes. The bell tower dates from the beginning of the 18th century. Next to the monastery there is a church dedicated to Saint Onuphre and an old house.
