The castle of Lida was the first fortress built in stone in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Prince Ghédimin ordered his construction in 1323 to defend the lands of the Grand Duchy of the Crusaders'Attacks. The castle stands on a small hill. In bricks and erratic, it is square shape. During his history, he survived many wars. There were two square towers in the castle, but today there is only one. Every year, in August, the international festival of medieval culture Zamok Ghédimina invests the city with theatrical performances and knights tournaments.
