This village is located in the Parry Sound district and can be accessed via Highway 401 or Nobel Road if you feel like taking your time. Named after the inventor of dynamite, it is not surprising to learn that during the First World War, the community was home to two factories producing explosives. Although they closed a few years after the war, munitions and explosives were produced here during the Second World War. It was also at Nobel that the Orenda aircraft engines were tested for the Avro CF-105 Arrow, a two-seater interceptor project that was eventually cancelled by the Diefenbaker government.
