Nature lovers and hikers are invited to discover the crystalline Marojejy massif, which can be climbed in three or four rather difficult days (round trip). Henri Humbert, the first scientist to discover the region, enthused: " The most prestigious massif on the whole island, in terms of its grandiose appearance, its wealth of flora and, above all, its untouched nature over almost its entire extent [...] is Marojejy! There are 118 species of birds, including the siketribe or Prévost's eurycer, the park's emblem, 149 species of amphibians and reptiles including the tiny Mantela, 11 species of lemurs including the diademed silky sifaka, endemic to the park. In terms of flora, there are numerous epiphytes (102 orchid species) in the dense, humid low-altitude forest, euphorbias and myrtaceae in the dense sclerophyllous forest, and ravenalas and bamboos in the low-altitude secondary forest. There are also 275 species of fern and 35 species of palm, including six endemics! The reception office for the 60,050-hectare park is located in Manantenina, 60 km from Sambava, on the road to Andapa, the nearest town to the park (40 km away). The name means "in the palace".The best time to visit is from May to June and September to November. In 2007, the park was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
