Monument erected in honor of Juan José Martínez, a miner who prevented the victory of the Independents over the Royalist forces
El Pípila is a monument to Juan José Martínez, the miner who heroically set fire to the gates of the Alhóndiga on September 28, 1810, enabling the independence movement to defeat the royalist forces entrenched inside. This gigantic statue of Martínez with a torch in his hand seems to watch over the city. You can get there on foot (it's a bit of a climb), or take the funicular behind the Teatro Juarez. From the monument, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city.

Vue sur la ville !
On peut prendre le funiculaire ou monter à pied. En haut du panorama, se trouve le PIPILA, on peut entrer à l'intérieur mais le plus beau reste la vue du panorama
a few steps to do, but it is worth it! the view is magnificent!
