Petit Futé's opinion on BITEF
The International Festival of Performing Arts is held every year in the second half of September. Since 1967, the Film Festival and Film festival in Belgrade has been hosting the finest directors for performances of quality. Ariane Clown, Patrice Chéreau, Andrzej Wajda and Jérôme Savary have already participated. Theatrical troops from all corners of Europe settle there early in the autumn to offer us the best of their repertoire. 15 to 20 companies are distributed in the different theatres of the city. Classic pieces, like others, are played by actors from everywhere.
Created in 1967 by decision of the Belgrade City Council, it is designed as a permanent event of particular importance to the city. Its main objective is to present the most important artists, productions and phenomena of the contemporary performing arts scene. In this way, the BITEF initiates and promotes a variety of approaches to theatre, pushes the limits of cultural identity and creates a network of professionals. It also encourages Serbia's development in the performing arts scene, and contributes to its full affirmation in the European context.
