Capital of the department and capital of eastern Senegal, Tambacounda - or more familiarly Tamba - is renowned for its record temperatures. Avoid at all costs the months of April and May, a time when one struggles with the qualifiers "overwhelming", "stifling" and "suffocating" to define this strange sensation. Here, the days start early and end late to avoid the afternoon heat wave. So hydration is no small matter! Often considered as a simple crossing point to Mali or Casamance, the city deserves a little lingering. Those who know Mali will immediately have the feeling, with the feeling of the so particular atmosphere and listening to the conversations in Bambara, of having crossed the border. The others will discover another Senegal... There's something to be grasped in Tambacounda. Maybe in its relaxed atmosphere with its long avenues where horse-drawn carriages and motorbike taxis circulate or in its market where mangoes pile up in phenomenal quantities when the season comes. The inhabitants are of a rare hospitality, the women have the reputation of being beautiful. And for lovers of the splendours of the past, old abandoned houses are visible to the north of the station. As an important transport hub, the city has a wide range of housing options, mainly for business customers. In addition to the many fast-food restaurants in the city, it will not be easy to find a good restaurant apart from the one in your hotel.
