THE JWANENG DIAMOND MINE

One of the world's largest diamond mines, a source of priceless wealth that represents, according to Harry Oppenheimer's estimates, probably the largest kimberlite deposit in the world since the discovery of Kimberley more than a century ago. A tour of the mine is possible, but must be arranged at least ten days in advance. Discovered in 1976, the deposit became exploitable in 1982. Since then, the mine has made an important contribution to the country's prosperity through the income from the sale of the precious ore.
