Heading north on Highway 97 from Prince George, you'll pass through Carp Lake Provincial Park. Its islets and lakes are easier to explore by boat, but hiking can give you a good idea of the setting. Heading east, you'll hit the Rockies at Pine Pass, home of the Powder King ski resort. At Chetwynd, known in 1912 as "The Little Prairie", you have the choice of continuing north to Hudson's Hope (Highway 29) or heading east to Dawson Creek. Hudson's Hope is a small town of 1,000 people, a former fur trade centre, now attracts the curious with its two dams: W.A.C. Bennett Dam and Peace Canyon Dam.
