The city is undergoing an economic transition as it seeks to become more ecotourism oriented. Ideally located on the ocean and at the mouth of the Skeena River, it is easy to see why visitors from around the world are drawn here It's a meeting place that invites people to mix and mingle, just like the totems that populate the streets with English names. The terminus of the VIA Railroad and ferries from Port Hardy and Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert is the third deepest ice-free natural harbour in the world.
