KALAUPAPA VILLAGE

Whether you come by mule or on foot, the meeting point is at the benches near the mule pen. The tour is conducted in a large blue Father Damien Tours bus, and the guide is usually a former patient or resident of Kalaupapa. To preserve the privacy of the residents, public buildings such as the hospital are not accessible to tourists. It is also strictly forbidden to take pictures of a resident, sick or not. The bus first goes through Kalaupapa, then Kalawao where the first settlement was established.
