PIILANI HEIAU

This temple, built in the 16th century for Piilani, king of Maui, is one of the most important in Polynesia. Built with basalt stones, one by one, by hand, one can easily imagine the number of years it took to build this structure. It remains a sacred place for the Hawaiians who have never stopped maintaining it. The temple is now part of the Kahanu Garden which in exchange for its privatization has restored it, stabilized it and maintains it continuously to ensure its public access. It is therefore necessary to pay the entrance to the garden.
