STAR OF THE SEA PAINTED CHURCH

This church was saved by the inhabitants of Kalapana during the destructive lava casting of 1989-1991. They moved it to this place in 1990. Built in 1930 by the Catholic missionary Evarest Gielen, the building is perfectly preserved and can still be seen in the biblical frescoes carried out by the same priest. Offices no longer exist because, since its transfer, the church has been transformed into a community religious centre.
