2 km north of Glenariff is the small village of Waterfoot, which borders a pleasant long beach with a port and castle (Red Bay Castle) built in the XIII by Sir James McDonnell. He was burned by his enemy Shane O'Neill in 1565 and later rebuilt. Now we see more than a ruin.
