Angelina Forest is home to the largest freshwater lake in the region, embodied by Sam Rayburn Reservoir.
The Angelina Forest (620 km2) covers 4 counties: Nacogdoches, Angelina, San Augustine and Jasper. Its edge is located about 20 km from Nacogdoches. It is home to the largest freshwater lake in the region, the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, fed by the Neches River and reinforced by a large dam in the 1960s. It covers 46,336 hectares. While walking around, you can see deer, wild turkeys, squirrels, doves and ducks... It is a good place to do some hiking, with several trails.
