The University of Texas at Austin was founded in 1883 and has the largest college campus in the state. Located in parks and green spaces of more than 140 hectares, you can walk freely in the campus during class time to discover the Texas and more widely American student life. You can also visit a few museums of interest, including the Blanton Museum of Art or the Briscoe Center for American History. Through these venues, you can also attend an entertaining theatrical or musical performance. There are also often temporary art exhibits on display in various locations on campus, including the Visual Arts Center, which offers free admission. Don't miss the University's iconic tower: almost 100 meters high and 30 stories high, it was designed by French architect Paul Philippe Cret in the 1930s. It is unfortunately known for having been the perch of the unbalanced Charles Whitman who in 1966 shot at students from the observation deck, killing about 15 people. On a lighter note, the University is particularly proud of the clock that tops the tower. It is the largest in the state.
