Ranch 48 miles southwest of Corpus Christi considered a nature preserve with a diversity of animals and plants
The ranch is located 48 miles southwest of Corpus Christi on Highway 77, which runs down to the Mexican border. King Ranch is known as one of the largest ranches in the world. But be warned, not all of its land is adjacent. It is divided into four sections, only two of which are contiguous. To give you an idea, this ranch alone occupies 85% of the area of the smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island. It's simple, it covers 3,340 km2. It is easy to understand why the owners of the ranch say that it takes at least a week to do a tour... It remains to be seen if it is worth it. However, a one-day visit already gives an idea of the diversity of animals and plants that can be found on the ranch's lands, all for an affordable price. It's a bit like a nature reserve that sounds a bit safari-like. In addition to thousands of cattle and nearly 300 horses, there are snakes, deer, wild boar and countless birds. The day tour takes you into the Texas past, beginning at Santa Gertrudis Creek where Captain King first camped in 1852. Passing by historic buildings, including the Captain's early 20th century mansion ('historic', of course, relative to the American scale). This tour lasts an hour and a half, and if you are convinced, why not extend it to four hours?
