AMERICAN CEMETERY

Located right next to Holy Cross Catholic Church, this cemetery is considered by many historians to be the oldest in the Louisiana Purchase (the entrance gate reads 1737). Some of the graves date back to colonial times and the building families of Natchitoches are found here (Prud'homme, Lambre, Cloutier, Roquier, Buard, DeBlieux, Sompayrac, etc.). The Louisiana Sports Hall Of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum offers free guided tours of the cemetery on the first Friday of the month, June through October.
