Very elegant 21-room house of perfect proportions that hosts many cultural events in Napoleonville

This house, built in the Greek Renaissance style, hosts many cultural events. Built in 1846 according to the plans of the U.S.-led architect Henry Howard on the edge of the Bayou Lafourche, this house of 21 rooms and proportions holds its name from the trees of the property that were used for its construction with more than 600 000 bricks made by hand by the slaves. The Pugh family, originally from England, made a fortune in cotton and sugar cane and built this plantation according to the models of the residences of South Carolina. Six ionic columns based on a stylobate and surmounted by a pediment give it the appearance of a Greek temple. The residence is very elegant with its floors of pine, white marble and its white marble.
green double south. Pugh died of yellow fever in 1852 and is buried in the family cemetery behind the house, which can also be visited. During the civil war, the residence was spared from destruction thanks to a unionist officer who fell in love with it. She was bought and renovated in 1964 by Naomi and Harold Marshall, parents of the current owner Keith Marshall. Keith, who studied art history at Rhodes School and Oxford University, decorated the house with great taste, housed with finesse in the antique dealers of New Orleans in furniture and paintings. The restoration took over thirty-five years. For the little romantic history, Keith knew his future wife, Millie, at the age of 12, when they were king and queen of the New Orleans Carnival. Millie attended Keith's birthdays, but the couple only formed at the age of 31. Keith then married Millie in the so romantic framework of the plantation, and since they both worked to restore and welcome their hosts. Films A Woman Called Moses, with Cicely Tyson, and Sister, Sister, with Eric Stoltz, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Judith Ivey, were turned here.
