MERCADO DE ESMERALDAS

Every day, along the Malecón and in the adjacent streets, a colourful market is held, attracting huge crowds. In an Afro-Ecuadorian morning atmosphere reminiscent of the Caribbean, you can find a profusion of freshly caught fish, multicoloured tropical fruits and colourful vegetables. In dark, strange stalls, you will find medicinal plants and mysterious concoctions that ensure happiness, luck, love, friendship and money, or more prosaically that ward off the effects of a hangover.
