BARRIO LAS PEÑAS

The Barrio Las Peñas is the oldest district of Guayaquil. It contains beautiful century-old houses. Each of them has its own history. For example, the famous musician Antonio Neumane lived here, as well as Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno, Eloy Alfaro, the writer Enrique Gil Gilbert, the historian Rafael Pino Roca, the painter Manuel Rendón Seminario, Juan Montalvo, and even Ernesto Che Guevara. In the 18th century, this neighborhood was home to the middle class of the population. Destroyed by fire in 1896, the neighborhood was rebuilt in the 20th century.
