BASILICA DEL SAGRADO CORAZON DE JESUS

Its construction began on 15 August 1883 and it was inaugurated 32 years later, on 9 June 1915. Its plan, designed by Ramon Lecanda, was inspired by those of the Basílica de San Ignacio de Loyola. On the main façade is a Christ the King, in commemoration of the centenary of the republic. The interior of this small basilica is very harmonious. The main altar is in baroque style and there is a beautiful sculpture of Christ on the cross by the artist Cuencano Ayabaca.
