FÊTE DE LA VIRGEN DE LA CANDELARIA

On February 2 in Chiantla, the faithful flock to give thanks to the Virgen de la Candelaría, renowned for her miraculous healing powers. This statuette of the Virgin, with its long embossed silver mantle, comes from the region's mines and is depicted on a superb double-columned altarpiece, two of which are twisted, just behind the altar of this old church founded in 1530 by the Dominicans.
