On the other side of the Amazon, about 60 km from Santarém in the north, the village of Alenquer was founded by religious. The territory of the municipality of Alenquer would have constituted, at the beginning of the Amazonian colonization, one of the zones of vangelization of the Capuchin monks, who, at the end of the XVIIth century, would have settled on the banks of the Curuá river, just above its mouth, gathering there the Indians of the region, among whom those of the tribe of Barés or Abarés,There are no traces of this colonization, neither church nor house. We go there to discover the natural curiosities, numerous in the surroundings.
