Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse is the oldest screw-pile lighthouse in Maryland, a process invented in the 1830s.
This is Maryland's oldest screw-pile lighthouse, a process invented in the 1830s to build lighthouses on a sandy or muddy bottom. The Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse was built in 1855 on a sandbank at the mouth of the Patapsco River. It is no longer functional and was moved to the port of Baltimore in 1997, but the small museum it now houses provides more information on the region's maritime history.
