St-James American Memorial Cemetery, featuring a granite chapel and the graves of soldiers killed during the 1944 landings
The ABMC - American Battle Monuments Commission -, founded in 1923, has as its mission the construction and maintenance of cemeteries and monuments outside the territory of the United States. On July 20, 1956, this memorial cemetery was inaugurated, where 4,410 soldiers who fell during the 1944 landings are buried. A granite chapel in the Pyria region houses a memorial. On the wall of the missing, one can see the name, rank, unit and state of origin of 498 soldiers.
