FORT CLONQUE

You'd never have thought of living in a fort... Yet this fort on the west side of the island, built in 1853, offers 11 rooms (for a total of 13 people). The interior design, both in the rooms and in the common areas, is very well done, and the comfort is beyond reproach. According to visitors, one of the rooms is even inhabited by the ghost of a German soldier, Heinz. Access is via a narrow gravel road bordered on both sides by the sea. The view is magnificent, overlooking the island of Burhou.
