Specially designed for Catherine II, the Pavilion des Glissades was conceived for one of the Empress' favourite pastimes: roller coasters. It is necessary to imagine in 1774 this long slope of 532 m which started from the platform of the second floor. In the winter, they slept on sledges and in the summer, in small, richly decorated special cars. Catherine II used to come to the pavilion especially to indulge in these great descents and thrills with her courtyard.
