Built by the architect Giacomo Quarenghi between 1803-1807, the building takes its name from its original function. Intended for officers of the Mounted Guard Regiment, it was used as the riding arena of the Imperial Riding School. Over the years, the building underwent the turpitudes of history until it eventually became one of the largest and most modern exhibition spaces in the city.
