The celebrations of the victory against Nazi Germany are particularly important, emotional and well attended.

More than any other country, Russia and the USSR paid a terrible price for the victory over Nazism with about 20 million victims. The military parade in Piter takes place along Nevsky Prospect and Dvortsovaya Square. It ends in the evening with a big fireworks display on the Neva River. The celebrations are moving at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery erected in 1960 for the more than one million victims of the 900 days of the siege of Leningrad.
