An avant-garde musician, Serguey Kouriokhine was one of the leaders of Leningrad's underground scene in the 1970s to 1990s and the leader of the mythical Pop-Mekhanika group. Named in his honour, this festival is oriented towards artistic experimentation and revealing to the general public the new names of the contemporary music scene. During the reconstruction of the Kuryokhin Centre for Contemporary Art, the festival takes place on the new stage of the Alexandrinski Theatre.
