This museum traces the region's past through the Clearance drama and the Kildonan Gold Rush. Reconstructions of a traditional house, smithy and shop from 150 years ago take visitors on a journey back in time, alongside artefacts that have survived to the present day. In all, thousands of years of history are told, not forgetting classic Scottish stories such as the Vikings, or more recent local stars such as the writer Barbara Cartland, who was a Helmsdale favourite.
