Designed by Spanish architect Enric Miralles, construction of the seat of the Scottish Parliament lasted from 1999 to 2004. Today, the boldly-shaped building stands in stark contrast to the rest of the Old Town and its neighbor, the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It's free to visit: an interactive exhibition explains the role, function, history and architecture of Parliament. Several guided tours (to be booked in advance) are available: classic, "Architecture tour", "Art tour" and "Photography Tour".

Coming from the park hollyrood, you can see, close to the palace, this building. It challenges the walker by structure that rather reminiscent of a residence or simple offices!

Only for its unusual architecture that divides the sensation of the scottish (you either love or hates...), the Scottish Parliament is a must see during a stroll around Holyrood Park.
